The human hibernation

“The Human Hibernation” is a film about human nature if it had been different.
It shows us a human society that hibernates during the coldest months of the year. Starting from the disappearance of Erin, a child who wakes up prematurely from hibernation, Clara (his older sister) will embark on a journey in search of answers and confrontation with the pre-established narratives of the society in which she lives.
A reflection on the human being, contradiction and the animal condition.

This project comes from the piece of video art “The human hibernation project” developed at Art Jove research grant in collaboration with MACBA. All this research was used as a starting point for this feature film that was shot in the USA and Molló (Catalan Pyrenees).
Build as a hybrid in between documentary and fiction, the characters and the stories that appear come from these farmers and ranchers that generously shared with us their lives and their homes. And Grimaldi Farm who supported us in New York upstate and let us live surrounded by cows and beauty.

The movie was possible to finish thanks to several labs and festival awards. In 2023, it won the Abycine Lanza WIP award, the Filmin award, and the Màrgenes WIP (ex aequo), which permitted it to finish its production.
Finally, it had its international premiere at the Berlinale Forum 2024, where it won the FIPRESCI prize, awarded by the critics. After that, it had a long trajectory in festivals like Berlinale (Berlin), FICCI (Colòmbia), Festival du nouveau cinéma de Montréal, Nowe Horizonte Warsaw (Poland), KARLOVY VARY International Film Festival (Czech Republic), SXSW (Sydney), AFI Fest (L.A), Docs Lisboa, Mar del Plata (Argentina), and Hainan Island International Film Festival (China), among others.

In Spain, it premiered at the Valladolid SEMINCI, in the Alquimias section, the boldest section of the festival. In 2025 won the prize Feroz for the best film in the category of Non-fiction.
